Stapelia sarpedon

June 25-28' 1878

See back for description of seedling, which when observed was 1/2 inch high— It was observed as so fleshy fleshy as not likely to nutate nutate, & as all the tribe consists of fleshy cactus-like plants. Observed under skylight on Horizontal roof, during hot weather,— Temp. whole time (from 25-28' June 23-24 C.

[sketch] mark below at distance of 5.5 Horizontal glass 11 5/8 above mark.

Tracing magnified 21 times. — Seedlings young young with the 2 rudimentary Cots: hardly divergent—

Impossible to make tracing quite accurate.— moved moved considerably changing its course, & I think may be considered as circumnutating slightly & imperfectly, as shown by plainly plainly zig-zag course on 26 & 27th (These 2 latter tracings might be joined & given)
