Nov. 15th 77

Beet-seedlings

Six seedlings had their cotyledons partially open this morning & now 8° 45' P.m are closed, but 1 seedling which had its cots quite open not closed.

Nov. 27th.— At noon, fresh lot of seedlings, 4 first seedlings with Cots partially open marked with white thread: at 10° 20' P.m completely shut.

Nov. 28th. 6°. 44' a.m. (still dark) 2 of the 4 partially open.

Nov. 28' 12° 15 marked with black thread 12 more seedlings which had their cotyledons partially open; 2 plants (one with white thread) of which had their Cots, forming together about an angle of 39°. Is the small opening of Cots. due to their having been surrounded by tubes of brown paper or due toyouth ??: 10° 20' P.m. all the 4 whites thread seedlings & 9/10 of those with black thread closed.— marked with pin one not closed.)

Nov. 29th The cots were widely open today in greenhouse, the short brown paper tube having been removed, ∴ I think the small angle which the Cots formed together yesterday was due to the direction in which ؟؟ light fell on them from above: to night 10° P.m, only 1 of the 4 white threads almost closed, the 3 others being much more closed than during the day.— Of the 12 with black threads none closed, though the cots much raised of most of seedlings—

Nov. 30' 10° P.m. Cots. seem hardy at all raised & the older plants cannot be said to be asleep.
