Mustard reobserved 1877

Mustard Nov. 25th noon tied whit thread round 11 plants, with Cots fairly well deflexed; at 10° 15' P.m, the bases of Cots in close apposition with the petioles parallel; & the upper Cot. & more rarely the lower Cot. stand vertically.

Nov. 26th 11° 30' a.m. (having been kept in light all morning) the petioles of all 11 plants are not now a little apart, & the 2 cots so deflexed that they stand at nearly right angles to stem

(Nov. 26th 10° 15 P.m, petioles together & cots a little raised, First they only a few are sub-vertical are not vertical & the seedlings cannot be called asleep.)

Nov. 27th 6°45' Am the petioles are now apart though still dark a little, but general appearance not very different from last night)

Red Cabbage. 7 plants observed, Nov. 25' noon, the smaller Cots. deflexed & at nearly right angles to stem; at 10° 25' P.m, bases of cots in close apposition petioles parallel; fatter larger cots not generally of greater number vertical, where the shorter Cot. are only vaguely vertical; it seems that there is not space enough for both to become vertical.

Nov. 26 11° 30' All Both Cots of all 7 plants deflexed at nearly right angles to stem & petioles not close, so that bases of cots. not in close apposition.

Nov 26th 10° 20' P.m.— petioles in close contact, & bases of cots. do; the cots of most of plants vertical or highly inclined— may be said to go to sleep during first 2 days of their life—)

Nov. 27' 6°. 45' a.m. still dark the cotyledons open & plants have widely different appearance from what they had last night.
