Red Cabbage— Movement of Cots under ground.

Dec 16th removed cracked earth & exposed one underground, but by mistake fixed glass filament to Cot. end of arc, it moved in one direction, & then changed & moved exclusively in other, as might have been expected from the opening straightening of stem.— In second specn. (just showing on surface of soil) with glass filament fixed to basal half of arched stem, movement enormous in one direction. I suppose growth along whole inner side [sketch] a a a a & this pushes back basal part of stem & raises Cots. Common nutation cd hardly be expected under these circumstances.
