Jan. 3d. & 4th. Red Cabbage. Nutation of Radicle

Fixed glass filament to base of short radicle, protruding from seed, just beneath where afterwards the red arched plumule appeared & left on wet sand, turned upside down — radicle not in the least injured by this treatment, traced for 2 days on Horizontal glass— moved much — but much— of movement may have been due to growth of plumule, as radicle was free— Movement very irregular, & though tip curved down towards sand by geotropism, I do not think whole movement can be thus accounted for & I think there was some nutation
