Jar M. Horse-chesnuts. (New narrow jar) dry radicles

Dec. 19th 1878.— Lunar-caustic (one touch.) dry caustic.

(1) 9° a.m) 20th 8° 40' slight curvature) 21' 9° slight, but decided) 22d 8° 30' touched again 23' 8° a.m whole tip blackened, not curved (24th 9°. 30' do) (25th 8° am do)

(2) 9° am) (20' 8° 40' very slight curvature (21' 9° straight— touched again) 22d 8° 30' touched again 23d 8° whole tip blackened not curved (24th 9° 30' yet whole root greatly declined from black side &— extended almost horizontally doubtful effect, but I think must be effect

(4) 9°. am (20th 8° 40' conspicuous curvature) (21' 9° do) (22d 8° 30' nearly straight 23d 8° decided deflection from black mark, but whole radicle bent to one side 24' 9° 30' I think whole root curved from black mark— 25' 8° 62° from the perpendicular

(5) 9°.a.m. 20th 8° 40' slight curvature (21st 9° marked curvature —35° from the perpendicular (23d 8° distinct curvature from black mark..) 24th 9° 30' no doubt 50° from perpendicular (25th 8° 15 63°  from the perpendicular

N.B. 25' 8°. 15. It is very striking when one looks from vertically above on the 5 se radicles— which are all extended sub-horizontally not one vertically down look irregularly acted on, the little black mark is in every case directly above on upper side In some cases in this & other jars a slight furrow is left above the black mark— showing injury

Certainly 4/5 of them acted on & 1 doubtfully
