(Conclusion)

A

Feb 20th 18 Radicles of Yorkshire Hero Peas  with little sqr of sand-paper shell-lacced at 4 mm to one side of apex— fixed laterally so as to avoid Sachs' curvature — germinated in Peat Peat, not but badly— very many grow monstrous,— Excluding

Pinned over water on Study Table in dark.

Excluding 3 which grew monstrous 11. were thus tried & of them 4 were not acted on & 7 became bowed to side on which card was fixed— slightly in course of 5°. 45' & m more plainly after 14 hr— 2 of the radicles were bent, so that terminal portion was 41° from the perpendicular downwards & one as much as 62°. It was highly remarkable that no transmitted effect, curvature could be seen, curvature being confined to spot where bit of card affixed—

Very valuable the contrast with effects of same kind & size of card similarly fixed to one side of apex.

147b

It is strange that bits of card were fixed either at same time Feb. 20th or subsequently to tips of 7 radicles & not one in the least affected — fixed on tip & side of on 2 no effect.—

As I have said germinated badly—
