greased 1.5mm on one root 2. 48 pm Nov 27 & marked another not greased. After 19 hrs the not greased one is bent sharply over the greased has grown sticks out at rt angles; it continued to grow till the next day (ie Nov 29) & was still vertical. O
Nov 28. 9. 55 am greased 1. to 1.5 mm on 8 roots projecting 2.5mm to 4 mm;
The following table gives the angle at which they were when greased, and then when examined 22 1/4 hrs afterwards, when they had grown so as to be have from 5.5mm to 7 mm projecting
Greased Examined O
1 15 inside vertical 5° inside, ie has gone 10° away from wet
2 10 outside Geotropism wd acnt for 10° — so hs gon 20° to wet 30° inside ie has gone 40° towards wet
3 15 outside 50° inside has gon 35° ie has gone 65° towards wet
4 vertical 10° inside ie has gone 10° towards wet
5 35 inside 60° inside (on wet) flat against ie has gone 25 25° (60°), as far as it could, towards wet

8 ? vertical
Have certainly not gone towards wet
Of these, numbers 2, 3, & 5 have gone very much towards wet— The rest have either not gone towards wet or not gone more than 10°—
Control Nov 29— Looking carefully I could only see one
ungreased one that sticks out like the greased ones did. The very numerous un greased ones being quite flat on the wet

Oats. O Grease
Nov 29. 9. 30, greased abt 1.5 mm on 4 roots which vary from 2 to 3 mm. They were examined after 25 1/4 hrs when they were from 5 to 5.5 mm long.
As. greased When examined
1 15° inside gone flat on wet ie moved 45° towards wet O
2 vertical 10° outside vert = moved 10° away fron
3 vertical 30° inside ⸺ moved 30° towards f
4 20° inside gone flat — moved 40° towards
Control (Nov 30)
The appearance was most striking Every one of the ungreased, certainly more as many as than 40—50 roots, flat against the wet, & the black tips only sticking up. This one I showed C.D
To find out where the bending place, I observed a few ungreased ones; the first projected 4.5 mm nearly vertically down; when examined 19 hrs after it was bent over at its base. From this one can only say that the bending place is not nearer less than 4.5 mm from the tip. Two others projecting 5.5mm and 3.5mm were found bent at their base after 12 1/2 hrs when they had grown to 10 & 7 mm. Therefore the bending place was not less than 3.5—5.5 or more than 7—10mm from the tip.
Five of the black tips measured under microsope are were 1.2mm, 1.3mm, 1.5mm, 1.2mm, 1.3mm
