Oct 2° 9° 20' — fixed sqr agan— very long radicles— on Study Table 5° P.m. no effect.

Oct. 3d 11° a.m 4 radicles with dabs of shell— lac. on one side of tip on chimney piece— none of these any curvature opposed to dab— Oct 4th 9° a.m no effect— I think dabs too low— Oct 5' 7° 45' a.m. no effect

Sept 30 5° P.m. 5 radicles with large square of sand-paper Cinder or bits of glass on Study Table Tmp 64°—66° F. 9° a.m. Oct 1. no clear effect.— 5° P.m. no effect — Put on bits of glass & immersed in water (Oct 2 9° a.m. I can see no effect, but bit of glass dropped off

but on cards & in air & placed jar in cold Hall passage.

5° P.m no effect. Oct 3d 10° 30' no effect— threw away.

Oct. 3d 10° 45 am new lot of 5 with dab of thick shell-lac on one side of tip on chimney piece— none of them any curvature away from dab. + 5

(Oct 4° 8° 45 The dab were rather low down & the tips of 4 are curved to dabs— in 5th quit straight & in this dab covers whole apex— dabs removed & non put on till radicles straightn themselves

2d 9° 15' fixed new sqr. of card & put on H(illegible) f chimney piece in damp air — 5° P.m Perhaps some effect, especially the little knob of shell-lac. — Oct 3d 10° 30' a.m. shell-lac dropped off 2, the 3 others certainly seem bent from shell-lac; left to observe — 4° 30' P.m — I cannt doubt about bendng from the dabs) (—Oct 4th 8°. 30 a.m radicles grown straighter & dabs loose—, removed them & put fresh ones at right angles to any curvature

Jar (B) Oct 4' 8° a.m. shell-lac minute & largish dabs of shell-lac on extreme tips of several secondary roots.

Phaseolus Scarlet. radicles with small square of sand-paper & some with «little» dabbs of shell-lac on apex.— All straight when fixed.— Kept on upper Chimney piece. Temp abut 70°

5° P.m. perhaps one or two affected

Oct. 8th 8° a.m. Perhaps. 8, 9 & 11 a little curved from squares. These fell off with grt readiness, so had to refix fresh squares to No' 3, 4, 6 & 7.

Oct 8th 4° 45' (2) & (3) a little affected— — Apparently 8 also

Oct 9th 8° 30' (1) dab of shell-lac no effect

Oct 10th 8° a.m. both now straight which makes me believe were before affected slightly— none of others can be said to be affected—
