[204]

Zea. (1) slope 70° or 20° from vertical.— viewed opakely on black surface & held longitudinally— upper part distinctly serpentine, though to slight degree; clearly pressed alternately with more or less less force on glass

Zea (2) slope 70°— no serpentine, but trail varies in breadth, on intermitted paper

Zea (slides not preserved)— 2 tracks on same glass, which subsequently united— no signs of circumnutation

Cabbage: (1) & (2) slope about 70° — at observations of little use, as owing to growth of arched hypocotyl not possible to say how much movement due to this cause & how much to movement of radicle— — no distinct serpentine movement, but, evidence that rose & fell or pressed alternately with greater or lesser force on slide.
