Temp. of sand-bath on 6th 76º to 82º what temp of damp air above water not know; jar large, no doubt damp. air much lower than surface of sand.

N.B The secondary roots do not rise from main root

2 & 3 declined from the perpendicular & from the sqr.

& I suppose affected by the square

4 & 5 not affected

(July 8 The two secondary roots now finely hooked with terminal part turned right up to zenith; a Third radicle now has point bent at right angles from sq.)
