Radicles of maize
I placed bits of smoked glass at about ∠ of 45° more or less & allowed 8 seedlings to send their radicles downward, keeping them warm & damp.— Course very straight, no signs of lateral circumnutation, but in all the cases the tips had evidently pressed more in one part than in another of the courses; & this is kind of ci nutation: I suppose that friction, slight as it was, was sufficient to prevent lateral movement.
