2. Beans Secondary Radicles
June 8th. 10°. 30' a.m several 8 tips with sand-paper & shell-lac on other bean 7 with do & thick gum.
June 9th 8° 15' a.m no effect, except 1 young radicle bent upwards from square— Can weather be too hot?
( 8 4° 30' P.m the one young one now turned up against geotropism at angle of about 45°. This cannot be chance.— I think a trace of upturning in some of the others.
(Jun 10th 8° am old R. bowed a little upwards — 3 bowed a little laterally to card
(June 9th 8°. 15 a.m fixed 5 square on young & short radicles of 1 bean & 2 on do. on another bean.
4° 30' P.m. 1 out of the 5 distinctly upturned against geotropism.
(Jun 10' 8° a m 2 young ones not affected
('do 8° a. of the younger radicles 3 not affected, 1 a little laterally, & 1 before yesterday mentioned upturned greatly— Of the older radicles 7 not affected 1 slightly upturned, before mentioned.
Failure.
(10th 4° 30' P.m No change in any of Radicles.
(11th 8°. 30' a.m, one more of the older R decidedly upturned, the 2 former ones now immensely upturned.)
(12th 8am The one older rad. alluded to in last paragraph more inclined upwards— another inclined laterally, but I dare not trust this, as 2 or 3 are little bent to side of Card. Mem. Sachs shows that, each side radicle has its own constitution & it really appears as if a few were sensitive to contact.

Final Report
Jun 13th 7° 50' a.m— The 1 additional long root, mentioned before has now tip turned up from gravity at right angles; 2 are perpendicularly down from card which never occur naturally & I believe card has acted. On this plant 5 others on which cards have not acted & of these 1 has tip turned to card
On The other plant 2 bowed up vertically from gravity— 3 others somewhat deflected to one side from card; 3 others per apparently slightly so & 4 not affected— I conclude certainly some effect
