Mar 8' 5° P.m apex of R. of left Hand further bean almost touching surface— Kept dark & painted with brush
9th 2° 40' nearest bean apex touching at high angle [sketch]
Mar 12' 4° 40' apex just reach the wood — extreme apex a little flatter near side
(Used)
7°. 15 apex not now flattened, but I think rather more oblique.
10. 15. apex perhaps blunter —a little— has moved to right to point where at recording angle sticks meet.
11th 7° 45' a.m.— apex now sharp again & points more vertically down, resting on bean — it has moved a little more to near side— Growth on the convex side, the result of [sketch] geotropism. wd cause this movement of increased bowing— ↓ wood less than 1/20th of inch thick The travelling to one side due to nutation for no recognizable different & level, on the 2 sides of transverse stick. Very little force can be exerted through geotropism otherwise point wd be flattened— when inverted may swell.—
(No furrow on the bean covered, with Lamp-black dust wetted.)
(The extreme apices with red paint do not seem to grew beyond
11° 25 has move laterally past the stick, as shown .... I believe surface does slope very slight to the side— Moved the further stick to position shown by dots & inclined the bean so that if it follows gentle slope must reverse curv. curvature
slope of Bean →
(measure slip of Wood)
Show importance of lateral movement
4° P.m. still going up hill!!— I think depends on lateral flexure which tip had assumed
5° 30' I think no further up hills
10 15 greater beyond end of stick & going right down.
