Bean Sensitiveness of radicle to pressures
(Ap. 1st 8° 30' a.m. rubbed for 1' with little round stick tips of 2 radicles exteriorly, at 4° 30' not at all bent. N.B. Drosera differently affected by pressure & touches.─)
[41]
Ap. 1. fix turned bean with long straight radicle & fixed with gum which kept damp at 9° 30' a.m small bit of card to one side of apex: at 4° 30' considerably bent from card for some distance down radicle i.e side nearest opposite to card must have grown slower & thus become concave reverse of petioles of climbing plants & tendrils.
[in margin:] This may be added to great list
Curvature extends for .27 down radicle far below bit of card.) 8° 30' P.m tip at right angles to basal part!
Ap. 2' 8° a.m. no more curved tip grown beyond card— Distal portion for a length of .36 at right angles to basal part.— I think growth completed.)
(Used)
versus Sachs
(Apr 1st 2 Beans were placed on slip of thick wood & radicles descended straight.
Ap 2d 6 more with bits of cards all growing out & down. straight = (+2) = 10) + 2 growing straight down)
