April 5. Bean fixed with long pins vertically on Hilum in damp air in almost darkness. Dark Hand[illeg]
I perpendicular down with glass oblique to Sachs curvature put on about 2°. 30— Ap. 6th 8° a.m curved a little from glass, but glass does not extend to apex. 4° 30' Pm removed glass, for not bent & put on curved card (Ap. 7' 8° a no effect, quite straight— put on fresh & narrower card
4°. 30' not at all bent — put on fresh card more transverse. I see tip brown perhaps injured no effect though thrice tried
Effect of bits of glass on tips of radicles of Bean
II. Ap 5' a little naturally inclined in line of ↑ put on glass so as counteract this curvature— radicle though inclined is straight beyond point of seed-coats— glass plate affixed about 2°. 30
Ap. 6' 8° a.m curved directly away from former direction & at rt angles to Sachs curvature. Ap. 7' quite straight fixed new bit of card, narrow 4° 30' not bent (a)
III — almost vertically down— plat put on so as to increase the slight deflection from perpn perpendicular.— but radicle is straight Plate affixed about 2° 30— Ap. 6th 8° a little curved in direction of Sachs' so tells nothing— 4°. 30' P.m removed glass & put on curved card. (Ap. 7' 8° a.m a little curved from glass plate
IV injured radicle with pin
V. vertically down & short — plate affixed (4° 45) so as to oppose favour Sachs' curvature Ap 6' 8° am curved in Direction of Sachs; removed glass— Ap 7' 8° a.m. tip curved in direction opposite to Sachs curvature
Ap. 6' 8° a.m put on larger splinter so as to go beyond apex & a little way up side.

No II (a) Ap 7th 4° 30 P.m put on tinfoil more transversely— tip not brown.
⨀ distance of tip to wood to see if growing ⨀
April 8th 8° a.m no effect on any of those on back of Page
(Two beans with old & long radicles which I previously tried with bits of card were well acted on, one had its tip rolled like a French Horn— the other much bowed.)

Ap 7' 8°. 15' a.m bit of glass— Rad. straight. in all following
4° 35 quite straight— changed card more on tip & thin varnish —(from before soft cushion fixed) (.8th 8° 15' a.m no effect, fixed long bit of sand-paper to same side as before. 4° 30 P.m curved towards paper?) 9th 8° curved from paper
(7) Ap 7th 8°. 15' bit of card (thin) 4°. 35 decidedly curved from card (8th 8° a.m do.) (9th 8° still in same position) (Acted slightly)
(8) Ap 7' 8° 15' tinfoil thicker kind 4. 35 doubtfully & slightly inclined, but may be geotropism—; fresh— tin foil more on tip thin varnish. (8° a.m inclined to one side so cannot be geotropism) 9th 8° a.m, curved but obliquely from tin-foil
(Acted so slightly that doubtfully)
(9) Ap 7' 8°. 15 card 4. 35 straight — thin varnish) (8th 8°. 15 slightly curved from, card, put on sand-paper) (9th 8° a.m same state)

(10) Ap .7' 8° 15' glass very narrow— 4° 45' slightly curved inclined but it is in direction of Sachs curvature) (8th. 8°. 15 same state— sand-paper, pressed) (9th 8° a.m no effect) same state)
(11) Ap. 7' 8° 15' card placed so as to encourage Sachs curvature 4° 45' curved somewhat & opposed to Sachs curvature— thin varnish) (8' 8° 15 straight— sand-paper pressed) (9th 8° a.m straight)
(12) Ap 7' 8° 15 card 4° 45' very slightly, hardly perceptibly curved (Ap 8° 8. 30' a.m straight — sand paper, pressed) (9th 8° am no effect) Straight
(13) Ap 7' 8°. 15' glass 4. 45 decidedly curved, but glass has slipped up thin varnish fresh glass) (8°. 8° 30' a.m same curvature as before, sand paper pressed (9th 8° a m very considerably curved upwards or from sand-paper
(Acted somewhat)
(14) Ap 7' 8° 15' tinfoil 4°. 45' perfectly straight— 5°.P. glass thin varnish (8th 8° 30 straight, sand paper pressed) (9th 8° a.m slightly curved from sand-paper
(very slight action)
