April 23d. 1879.    Bean Radicle— touched only once & not rubbed

8°. 25' a.m    roots dry, not washed with water, about 4 mm. from apex

9° immersed in water on one side— avoiding Sachs curvature—

(1) 4° 30' P.m hardly perceptibly curved to Black mark (24th. 7° 30 a.m. about 30° from perpendicular

(2) 4° 30' like (1) (24th 7° 30. about 25° from perpendicular

(3) 4° 30 like (1) (24th 7° 30. about 40° from perp.

(4) 4° 30' curved at angle of 45° to Black spot with lower basal part of radicle (24th 7° 30' about 40° from Perp

(5) 4° 30 curved exactly as (4) (but touched on opposite side) (24th 7° 30' at right angles

(6) 4° 30 curved exactly as (4) (24th 7° 30 at right angles

(7) long —radicle apex also touched rectangularly 4° 30' curved to black side 22° from the perpendicular: The apex is not blackened, I must have failed in touching it. (24th 7° 30 is slightly black ends but not the apex & bent at about 20° from perpendicular

(8) apex also touched rectangular 4°— 30' rectangularly curved to black mark— Black touch on apex as in last paper seems preponderant over the mark at 4 mm from apex. (24th 7° 30' a.m at right angles & directly from blackened apex.—

(25th 8° a.m Radicles in water have now grown greatly, but the Kinck not quite removed in any & this shows that locally so much injured increased growth at this spot cd. not straighten the radicle.—)

Beans

April 25 a long straight radicle with bit of sand-paper fixed at about 10° am to tip; at 5° 15' P.m curved from card to length — measured   along middle of .4 of inch.  (Used)

a second one curved from card for only .25 of inch.

I ought to have measured length of radicle first —very important to know whether curvature, as I believe transmitted backward

These 2 cases may be added to general list of cases of radicles curving from card
