Jar A

April 29th 1879

8° 15' a.m

growing vertically down over water in dark  Beans Radicles with single instantaneous touch with Caustic 4 mm from apex.—

Radicle quite dry, germin in Caustic— sawdust

Brushed with camel.— Caustic dry Temp. 58° to

(1) 4° 30 I believe I did not touch now touched. 4° 30' (30th 7° 30' a.m. deflected 16° from vertical towards black mar. (viz. length 1 1/2 Breadth about 1 m injury superficial, I cannot describe how deep. probably) 4° 30' P.m. has become quite straight.

(2) 30th 7° 30 very little curved to mark

(3) (like 2)— (length of mark a little above 1 m. breadth not 1/2 m.m)

(4) like (2) but even less May 1 8° tip mark a very slight curvature fr

(5) 30' 7° 30' mark hardy visible I think no effect— May 1' there was a very slight effect from 4 mm mark May 1' I think there was a trace of an effect.

4° 30' curvature of these 5

Jar E & A

April 29th 1879 8° 30' a.m.    Beans radicles; just pressed with caustic

for a second 4 mm from apex, & on apex on same side for same time.

Beans grown in sawdust & dry-rushed with dry brush— Caustic dry, suspended vertically in dark over water.— Temp 58° to

Ja

Caustic to tip

(6) in Jar A 4° 30' tip curved from black tip a little, but the 4 mm mark very small, smaller than tip on (30th 7° 40' am lower mark has produced trace of effect. — tip not so. (May 1' 8° certainly a little curvature from tip-mark

(7) in Jar A 4° 30 straight. (30th 7° 40 am lower mark caused deflection of 22°, upper mark doubtful whether any effect— size of mark 4° 30' I think upper mark has caused slight curve from it

May 1' 8° a m

(1) Jar E (30th 7' 45' am, a trace of curvature from tip — lower mark slight indentation, but no curvature) May 1st 8° am certainly slight curvature from tip, none now at lower mark,

(2) (30th 7° 45' a.m. decided curvature to lower mark, upper no effect May 1' 8° a.m certainly slight curvature from tip, abut 28° from vertical, lower mark no trace left

(3) short radicle (30 7° 45 a m, no clear effect from either mark) May 1' 8° do O Tip

(4) (30th 7° 45' a.m slight curvature from tip. (May 1' 8° tip curvature disappeared.

(5) (30th 7° 50 am strong curvature towards lower mark, tip no effect (May 1' 8° lower curvature disappeared— no curvature at tip) O

(6) short R. 4° 35' curved from tip, but 4 mm mark very small (30th 7° 50' a trace of curvature from tip, lower mark very small no effect) May 1' 8° no curvature at tip

(7) short R. (30' 7° 50' slightly curved from tip, lower mark barely visible May 1' 8°  still slight curvature from tip

(over)

(8) short radicle (30th 7° 50' am lower mark very small, no effect from either) May 1' 8° do) O

(9) short radicle (30' 7° 50' a.m., lower mark very small, no effect from either. May 1st gr has never grown, diseased.)

(30th 4° 30 P.m It certainly seems that not touching on apex & at 4mm counteract & cause very slight curvature, sometime a trace more on one side & sometime on other side.)

7/10 tips acted
