June 12th Radicles of Beans— Jar wooden top . 1880.
Same radicles on which Frank experimented
7 radicles of card — generally rhombs about 1/20th of inch squ on each side, 11° 10' a.m. fixed with little shell-lac on one side— from 4 to 5 mm from apex— Radicles, rather long ones.— Temp 53°. F.
(11 10' P.m card washed off) 4° 30' P.m no effect on any — put jars on chimney piece
(2) 10° P.m distinctly bent to card, & abruptly 13th 8° a.m has become straight ✔ (13' 4° 30' P.m. All same state in both jars.)
(3) ✔ 10°— curved gradually to card 13' 8° a.m. curved slightly with trace of Kink
(4) ✔ 10° slight Kinked to card — 13th 8° a.m slight Kink
((5) no card 13th)
(6) 10° straight, not grown — 13th 8° do. tip brown & dead
(7) 10° straight not grown 13th 8° do.
11° 25' a.m Jar with glass top. (fixed same manner.) .

June 16th 1880. Radicles of Beans. with objects all 4 mm from Apex— suspended over water on Chimney Piece.—
(1) — R.. 2 1/2 m in length Cm. long 10. 30' a.m. card grown 10° 20' P.m I think a little curved (17th 10° 35' a.m. card— shell-lac. 3 mm from apex.

(4) 1.5 C.m. 10. 30 long: 10° 30' a.m. card gum. (17th 10° 35' card— shell lac 4 mm.
(5) 1.5 C.m. long : 10° 30' a.m bit of thin glass shell lac.. (17th 10° 35' a.m shell-lac. card 4 mm
(6) 2.0 C.m. long like (5) (17th 10° 35' a.m card— shell-lac 4' mm.
(7) 2.0 C.m long like (5) 10 20' P.m I think curved (17th 8° a.m. quite straight)

16th 4° 30' P.m. no trace of effect in any of the 7.) (17th. 8° a.m all straight! Yet one has some more tip in contact with head of pin & has bent splendidly over the head.)
(17th 10° 10' P.m. none of the new cards have acted)
18th 8° a.m. none have acted! No 4 has dropped of

Conclusions
8 radicles 8 radicle tried with card or bits of glass & shell-lac, but 4 of them with gum at 3 & 4 mm from apex— 7 of these radicles tried again all at 4 mm from apex & with shell-lac, & of these 15 trials none acted. In other paper June 12th, in which the same radicles which were tried by Frank were afterwards tried by me, 8 were tried, but of these 3 did not grew so that only 5 were fairly tried, 4 were Certainly curved towards bit of card & 1 no effect.. I may say out of 20 trials 4 acted.—
A pin-head acted.
June 20th Another spec. with tubulous petioles only 1.9 inch long.— slightly split at base— enlarged & opened the split (Megarrhiza) & fond plumule perfectly straight & little above 7 mm long (or exactly .3 inch) now this proves that swelling of plumule burst the tube & that its escape is due to bending down of apex by which the convex or bowed part protrudes from the slit & thus escapes. This shows that a subsequent specially acquired movement.
