Crack measured with micrometer under microscope
You say before 4 mm in width
I cannot understand saw myself 3 or 4 times
True scale wd be better
Magnified X2
These are the pieces of wood with holes through which radicle of Bean passed & exerted trace of 8.80?
[95]
(Used)
Wood with string
The crack was 1.5mm (= .06 .059 inch ) & did not diminish when the root was cut off flush above & below. But on dissecting out the little enclosed cylinder of root the crack went to .7 mm .7 .8mm = 03 31 inch .81 mm. It was then hung so:— [sketch] Depth of Hole .13 of inch & therefore length of strain
and weights put on till the crack increase to about 1.5mm measured by compasses. It required 250 gramms = 8.8 oz After the weighing the crack was again measured and it was .8 mm again Wood was kept damp
Wood without string
Crack before cutting out root = .4 1 mm = .016 inch
after = .2 .008
Weight required 250 gramms = 8.8 oz
The crack was measured in this case with a microscope the weight hanging over a pulley
Depth of Hole .1 of inch
