Lotus Jacobaeus

Spirits specimen under compressor— pulvinus rendered is extremely opake in young seedlings, owing to so much protoplasm from growth, rendered opake by spirits.—

In very young specimen, I can see no trace of pulvinus— which in older seedlings lies close to lamina,— it is rather narrower than lower part of petiole, & epidermic cells, which alone can be seen well, far smaller than those of lamina & lower part of petiole— Now in very young seedlings the cells of epidermis are convex, but not larger than those of lower part of petioles or lamina.—

It is very important as showing how little distinction between the 2 classes of cases that the same individual has no pulvinus in very young state & acquires one in older state.
