Notes for Movement in plants. Text F1325. Ampelopsis tricuspidata or small-leaved Virginia creeper.

[11]

Tuesday June 1' — I may say after trying 8-10 shoots that black lines do not become change position. — (Ampelopsis( (see other notes in Pincers)

Tuesday Jun 1' painted 3 shoots— upper ones to right of Porch— the upper & lower of the 3 with the hook upwards— the middle one with hook horizontal or rather somewhat beneath horizon.

—No true circumnutation— (This probably described Wiesner)

June 2d— It is certain that some hooks turn downwards & are twisted,— whether weight I cannot decide

June 3d. several of Hooks have turned downward by twisting of upper part & much of lower part of shoot— lower part apogeotropic— almost all shoots on the walls are inclined from it & hooks with tip point —outwards— but when shoot quite vertical this point directed indifferently to either side. Hence I do not doubt weight plays an all important part— Be cautious about A. tricuspidata— for black lines in above case through weight became lateral.—

[11v]

May 27th One Hooked to right left of Hall door— strong

Left Right of Hall-door one only curved to left right of pipe & now tied upright— one slight curved left horizontal —

One to left of Pipe, well hooked & tied Horizontally other Hooked & painted black & left in position

Sunday 30th 8° 30 am 2 Hooks painted on convex & fastened horizontally with Hook upwards, to left of Porch [sketch]

Monday one of these became Hooked downward & I think no mistake — yet black line not twisted nor any signs of twisting in any part!
