Ampelopsis tricuspidata. June 10' 1880 8° a.m.

Painted 2 at end & 6 shoots on inner side of first column— convex side painted.

One thread shoot almost vertical

Two threads shoots horizontal or highly inclined— All shoots left in their natural position.—

(with the sub-horizontally extended shoot, the hooks are often more or less lateral or turned up in one case, opposed to weight.)

(Say with A. hederacea, weight of tip appears (from position of hooks & the effects of bending upright branches into horizontal position) to be chief or exclusive cause of Hooking; but with A. tricuspidata, this cannot be case, as tip not rarely form loops, on upright & horizontal branches.

Hooks occasionally directed upward & often laterally or horizontally.

June 17' none of marked hooked shoots have reversed themselves, but one horizontal one has black lines rather lateral now. (One vertical shoot, thus with tip horizontal.)
