Oxalis Valdiviana—Duration of Sleep & growth of Cots.

Cotyledons

On Oct 26th This was an oldish seedling with a true leaf just formed, made 2 dots at extremity & near extremely base in longitudinal of Cot & distance open was 37 1/2 / 500 = 75/1000 of inch; after 4 days + 5° 30' no growth whatever, & during this time slept every night— — Marks were then made at extreme base extremity of Cots. 35/500 = 70/1000 of inch & after 4 1/2 days no growth whatever whatever & slept all time— so cause of movement in joint independently of growth.—

Oct. 26th — the Cots continued to rise vertically little for 11 days — After 12 days was greatly raised, but not quite vertical & now a second true leaf was emerging.— After 16 days from 26th two true leaves well formed & cotyledons still well raised— after 18 days a little raised — After 20 days the 2 cots at night formed a rectangle together After 21 days cots during day beneath the horizon but raised at night so as to form rectangle. After 24 days from first observation & then the first true leaf just formed, Cotyledons not at all raised.
