June 23d 1879 10° 30' P.m. Picea Nordmanniana
Tree in pot 18 inches high— Old leaves on Horizontal Branches— rise up & move a little backwards or towards stem of tree— Hence looking vertically down on tree apices of leaves seen, all directed to zenith.
With eye on level with apex ends of branches— leaves look white, because white under sides seen.—
July noon. — Next morning no plain differences in position of Leaves
Sept 3d did not sleep at night
Sept 24th. do. do— but I observe that leaves on last-year shoots stand at 10° P.m very vertically— same state next morning
