Phaseolus Sachs Curvature

Six fixed damp air on study; chimney piece

Oct 13 12 noon, with hilum downwards [sketch]

They are fixed so that the tip of the root was vertical the basal part making an angle with the vertical θ, which I call inside vertical

Thus the base of the root is at first under the bean as in making the angle θ; this angle afterwards diminishes so that the base becomes vertical or may even go beyond the vertical in the other direction

From this it appears that Sachs curvature not reduced, & the plumles are now straight.— yet judging by eye I thought that several had become straight — it is certain that radicles & plumules in several now lie in same straight line. —

The tips are now painted with new soot— cap— formed — ie after 6 days from Sept 28th

Jar D— 10 am Oct 4 Faba

The bean is fixed with its long axis vertical without considering the root which however are nearly vertical

Conclusion

Oct 9th Frank concludes from these observations on 9 Radicles not with tips cut off of Beans that Sachs' curvature does not disappear or straighten straighten itself. —
