1879 Vicia faba. Sachs Curvature

Nov. 26 10° 40' a.m. 3 radicles on average 1/3 of inch long— from the expose tip of seed-coats over water on chimney piece

27th 8° a.m. Epicotyl in 2 spec. a trace of arch Sach's curvature slightly developed — slope goes from base of petioles, & I think caused by slight curvature close beneath junction of petioles?

27th 8° 45' a.m put a lot more Beans most with longer straight radicles & painted with black grease line along petiole & hypocotyl & upper part of radicle, to see if black line grows crooked at position of petiole with upper end of hypocotyl.— Sachs says this curvature is stronger if Geotropism eliminated, as might be expected for it is opposed by Geotropism.— This shows other movement cannot be only the leverage of unfolding epicotyl

(over)

[26v]

28' 8° am 8 Beans Black line in all slightly curved— chief cur set of curvature at junction of petiole & a little beneath —?'
