Jan 26 80. In the case of the Bean the arching of the tip of Epicotyl may apparently it appears at first as if it might be due to the confinement of the seed-coats, but this is not the cause, for with 2 several beans grown under unnatural conditions, [illeg] that is with the ends of the primary radicle cut off or pre compressed by wire bends were formed in the coaxel of the petioles of the cotyledons, & these had there tips arched though they were quite free from any confinement by of the seed-coats.
