Acanthus mollis

May 14' 1878

Of 4 3 seedlings allowed to grow, one has developed 2 leaves not far from equal with third leaf or plumule between them — A second has 2 unequal leaves with petiole [illeg] — A third had 2d leaf so small & buried so deep in ground that I think it doubtful whether ever wd have developed; (Replanted) the developed leaf being very fine & large.— (I do not know whether young leaf or plumule in centre; call it growing point or better do not allude to.─
