Dec. 20th 1879 Gossypium herbaceum.—

Some seedlings at 10° 18' P.m with Cots. not in the least asleep.—

Larger cots now in length of lamina along midrib .75 inch; in breadth of lamina 1.05 inch, at right angles to line of midrib (Cots very broad)

Dec. 26' 10° 15' P.m Cots Horizontal.

Largest cot. Lamina in length 1.05 along midrib

─ in breadth 1.90 across lamina

Jan 6th. 1880 11° P.m not asleep— Little leaf & plumule together 1/2 inch long— Biggest Cot. 1.45 long on midrib & 2.4 inch in breadth

This species does not sleep— see about true leaves.

Jan 27' 10° 40' P.m. Biggest 2.5 in breath — true leaf with petioles 2.0 inch long! — no sign of Sleep just as horizontal as at noon.─
