Nankin Cotton Cotyledons
Jun 15' 10º P.m. 1879
2 seedlings with cots at noon & now al horizontal — length of a cot .65 of inch.
Jun 23d 10º P.m. same 2 seedlings
one (1) with Cots 60º & 65º beneath horizon & were horizontal at noon; length of blade 1.1 inch
(2) with Cots 70º beneath Horizon; length of Cots 1.3 inch—
Petioles curved downwards.— A very little true leaf now formed
It is clear that as with Ipomœa the bowing down of Cots. occurs only after grown large
25th 10. 30' P.m Cotyledons similarly depressed— first true leaf .9 of inch in extreme length no at horizontal as at noon
July 9th Cots now very old, large & beginning to wither, but at 10º P.m almost vertically down & at noon nearly Horizontal (over)

July 8th 1879 Plants now 6 & 7 1/2 inches high with 2 or 3 leaves developed— these at 10º 15' P.m vertical or 6' 8º or 70º beneath the Horizon.
(The Cotyledons very old & vertical & withering)
Blade of vertical leaf 2 inches long that of the 70º leaf 1 inch long. At noon on previous day Cots Leaves horizontal —
On 9th at 9º a.m. in study leaves almost horizontal except the biggest which still depends much.
12º 15' in Hothouse all leaves including biggest one nearly Horizontal
Plant clearly sleeps.—
