Feb. 16 80/ Alabama Cotton at 4° 40' P.m. Cots. still Horizontal — Darkened 8° 30' not asleep — 10° 30' no depression

18° 10° 30' P.m not in the least asleep.

(20th 8° 25' P.m Cots. Horizontal (specially finest seedling) turned pots upside down 10° 20' P.m. cotyledons in their reversed position have certainly sunk down, so that weight does produce some effect

(Feb. 27th 10°. P.m Both lots with cots: flabby & depressed, but one can recognise at once when Cots. are flabby from being too dry)

Feb. 16 (80). Sea-isld 3 Plants Cotton at 4° 40' P.m Cots still horizontal darkened. —

8° 30' a little depressed 10° 30' a trace depressed & Cots rather folded — a slight plumule

18' at 8° 40' cots not a sleep, but rather folded & apparently rather flabby, so turned pots upside down & by 10°30' P.m. Cots sloped downwards in this inverted position & this shows that weight had acted on them; but it is possible that they were too dry & flabby.—

By 7° a.m 18th mid-ribs had risen showing that tension had increased during night on [2 words illeg], but still flabby for on reversing pot, they sank down

20th 8° 25' P.m Cots almost horizontal — turned pot upside down— 10° 20' P.m Weight of Cots has certainly depressed them in their [illeg] position

Add after G. Herbaceum that these 3 Kind all behaved in same manner—

There is goodish sentence about effects of weight—
