June 6th 1879 Pharbitis nil = Ipomœa cærulea
Observed at noon in Hothouse & 10º P.m
Pot. I. plant (1) Both Cots Horizontal at noon: at 10º P.m both 48º beneath Horizon
Plant (2) 1 Cot 10º below Horizon— the other horizontal — at 10' P.m. the former 60º below horizon, the other 37º below Horizon
Plant (3) at noon I believe about horizontal; at night both 48º beneath horizon 37º-50º
Pot II. Plant (1) at noon both cots horizontal— at 10º P.m, one 25º & the other 35º beneath horizon 25º
Plant (2) both cots horizontal but sloping laterally at night, one 54º beneath horizon & other 79º
Plan (3) at noon I believe both about horizontal, at night 79º both about 30º beneath horizon (about 30º)
Pot III
Plant (1) young with small Cotyledons both Cots at noon Horizontal; at 10º P.m; one cot horizontal — the other 20º above horizon!!!
Plan (2) one cot 5º above horizon, the other horizontal; at night both 32º beneath horizon
Plant (3) I believe Cots both about horizontal at noon at night about 30º beneath Horizon.—
All these seedlings had large Cotyledons with minute plumule developed (except 1 in Pot III.) & all certainly fall considerably, but not enough to be called sleep.
