June 6th 1879 Pharbitis nil = Ipomœa cærulea
Observed at noon in Hothouse & 10° P.m
Pot. I. plant (1) Both Cots Horizontal at noon: at 10° P.m both 48° beneath Horizon
Plant (2) 1 Cot 10° below Horizon— the other horizontal — at 10' P.m. the former 60° below horizon, the other 37° below Horizon
Plant (3) at noon I believe about horizontal; at night both 48° beneath horizon 37°-50°
Pot II. Plant (1) at noon both cots horizontal— at 10° P.m, one 25° & the other 35° beneath horizon 25°
Plant (2) both cots horizontal but sloping laterally at night, one 54° beneath horizon & other 79°
Plan (3) at noon I believe both about horizontal, at night 79° both about 30° beneath horizon (about 30°)
Pot III
Plant (1) young with small Cotyledons both Cots at noon Horizontal; at 10° P.m; one cot horizontal — the other 20° above horizon!!!
Plan (2) one cot 5° above horizon, the other horizontal; at night both 32° beneath horizon
Plant (3) I believe Cots both about horizontal at noon at night about 30° beneath Horizon.—
All these seedlings had large Cotyledons with minute plumule developed (except 1 in Pot III.) & all certainly fall considerably, but not enough to be called sleep.
