May 18th morning (1 Pin) Cots. Horizontal (21' 10° 30' 1 & 2 & some other leaves Cotyledon a good deal raised but far from shoot) (22' 27°30' a.m the cots. in the morning are quite horizontal. A minute Plumule now projected above the plane of the horizontal cots, & no' 1 & 2 in those which germinated on the 19th — — 25 & 26 Tips of Cots in contact, but not (see back) whole extent, as each is inwardly curved.

28 The seedlings were not covered with Bell glass, & that with Tack almost vertical & that with 1 needle nearly so; that with 2 needles less so, & several not marked, almost short or quite vertical, so that & these could not must have germinated on 20th or 21st

I may say rather variable, but begin to [illeg] stand almost vertically in for 5 to 6 or 7 days.—
