p 3

March 17th

Temp on ground between -3° & -4° C.

(16th) Marsilea 9 leaves for 1 hr; next morning (M 17th)  6 out of the 9 killed, the 3 others now released & marked with red wool one of these subsequently became streaked with brown lines. On the trailing part of the plant a large proportion 1/2 or 3/4 of the leaves are killed. Of the mass of leaves about the edge of the pot none seem to be killed at first sight so that the experiment seemed to give striking results: but I found 10 or 12 killed here

p 1 & 7

Marsilea March 24th.— temp. on dial 25-26 F. falling to 22°  (Expose 35' to 40')

—9 leaves either pinned on tall pins or gummed so that couldn't sleep expose 35' to 40'— Of these one is quite unhurt the rest killed.

3 leaves pinned close killed but not more than the tall pinned. The trailing (It rested on frozen ground)) part is much injured but it was half killed before. There are large numbers of uninjured ones

2

March 24' (see p. 1 for Temp.) (8)

Exposed Mar 24

Marsilea hang about the edge of the pot., also a good many killed ones but the proportion strikes one as small
