Movements of Cotyledons Trifolium subterraneum
Nov 21. (Possesses a good pulvinus.)
Only the angle made by lamina observed & this increased rose from 30° above in the day (12.46) to 70' above at 8 40pm that is the leaf rose 40°— The other specimen rose from 38° to 80 that is 42°— The cotyledons were not arched in wards as afterwards
— Nov 23 18.7C— day (1.45 pm) — Left leaf — horizontal, rt leaf 5° below
[sketch] at night 10.26 pm the cotyledons arch in wards} left leaf — 80° above; rt leaf 82 below above
Therefore the left leaf rose 90° & then fell 10° by going inwards to 80°— The right leaf rose 95° & fell 12° 8
Nov 24. 9.15 am. Left leaf 25° above right 35 above
The petioles only observed on night of Nov 23 & morning of Nov 24; they were
Nov 23 night}—left 60 above Right 68 above
Nov 24 morning — 60 ─ 60 ─
Therefore no appreciable movement
Therefore one had sank 8° & the other none by morning (i.e. petioles hardly move)
ii
Trifolium subterraneum Plant II
Nov 21. Cotyledon rose 42 degrees as described on (i)
Nov 23 1.45 pm} left leaf 55° above Rt leaf 55° above
10°. 26' pm — — — 82° —— 80 —
[sketch]
That is the left one rose 35° & fell 8°; right rose 35 & fell 8° 10
Nov 24 9°.15' am 15 above — 10° above
Therefore during night left leaf rose 8° to the vertical & then fell 75° to Rt ; the right leaf rose 10° in the same way till it got vertical & fell 80°
The petiole angles were as follows
Nov 23—1. 45 day 10 20 night Nov 24 9.15 morning |
L 70° above 70 above 62 above |
R 45 above 55 above 55 above |
Nov. 29th 10° 30' a.m, the blades of Cots. of same seedlings as above almost horizontal; at 9° 15' P.m they stood vertical & not inclined inwards.
Look at when 1' leaf developed, on account of slewing of 1 Cotyledon
