Radiation

(Used)

Feb. 7th

Mimosa pudica— I had to tie up 4 leaves, as either too old or cold checked sleep— one young seedling did go to sleep marked with pin

Exposed 7° 25' (Pot I brought in at 8° 25') Pot 2 brought in at 9°

Feb. 8' exposed clear sky & frost (see paper for Temp.) from 7° 23' P.m to 10° 8' (ie for 1.° 45°) with following results,

Feb. 9th 8° a.m of the 4 pinned open 2 utterly dead on the following morning, 1 I think injured which soon died & 1 not injured, so 3/4 killed:— Of the 5 with Cots closed or tied together, 1 utterly killed, 1 much injured which afterwards dies but I doubt whether growing axis killed, & 3 not injured. so that 2/5 killed.)

Oxalis corniculata — Cut off all first leaves which were not asleep exposed 7°. 25'— brought in at 9°.

(Feb 8th. 8° a.m. none of leaves seem injured the free ones awake!

(Feb. 8th did not go to sleep till quite late at night)

Nicotiana glauca exposed at 5°. 30'. I cannot make out anything certainly, as the y youngest leaves suffer so much more than the older ones.

N. B. There are notes about Cassia in Bundle about Cotyledons
