Cooper, James Davis (1823-1904), wood engraver and book illustrator, London. Cut woodblocks for Expression, Insectivorous plants and Wallace's Malay archipelago.

Kock = Eduard Koch (1838-1897), German publisher and head of E. Schweizerbart'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, which published Darwin's works in German.

Electros = electrotypes of the woodcut illustrations. "Electrotypes were produced by the electrolytic deposition of copper on the woodblocks; the copper moulds were then removed and reinforced from behind with lead, leaving the original woodcuts intact." Correspondence, vol. 20, p. 325 n.

Stats Hall = Stationers' Hall, where literary and artistic works were registered for copyright (under Copyright Amendment Act, 5 & 6 Vic., c. 45) which cost 5s. Five copies of a work were to be sent; four were sent to the copyright libraries of the UK and one copy retained at Stationers'' Hall. Copyright was for 42 years in 1874. Hence the phrase "entered at Stationers' Hall" was synonymous with "Copyright" at the time.
