Cooper, James Davis (1823-1904), wood engraver and book illustrator, London. Cut woodblocks for Expression, Insectivorous plants and Wallace's Malay archipelago.

Electros = electrotypes of the woodcut illustrations. "Electrotypes were produced by the electrolytic deposition of copper on the woodblocks; the copper moulds were then removed and reinforced from behind with lead, leaving the original woodcuts intact." Correspondence, vol. 20, p. 325 n.

Reinwald, Charles Ferdinand, 1812-1891. 1873- Publishers of Paris as C. Reinwald et Cie; published 1st French editions of eleven of Darwin's books, as well as editions of Origin from 1873 onwards and Life and letters in 1888.

Unione Tipografico-Editrice Torinese. Publisher of Turin. 1871-1883 Published twelve first Italian editions of Darwin's works.

William West, lithographer, Hatton Garden, London, produced the single diagram which appeared unaltered in all editions of Origin.
