My dear Mrs Darwin

I have been requested by the Council of the Cambridge Philosophical Society to communicate to you the following resolution which was passed at

a meeting held this afternoon

"That this council desire to record their sense of the extraordinary value of the scientific labours of the late Charles Robert Darwin, M.A. LLD of Christ's College; & that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs Darwin as an expression of the deep sympathy of the Council with herself and other members of Mrs Darwin's family for the irreparable loss they have sustained."

I trust you will permit me also to express to you personally my own sympathy. The visits to Down & the kindness of Mr. Darwin will always remain to me amongst those memories wh. one loves to recall.
