Dear Mr. Darwin,
Many thanks for your letter. The ticket to which you refer had not reached me, last lest I had no difficulty in getting one at St James's St. I shall have been very sorry not to have been able to take part in the last sad tribute of respect to our great biologist – to one

whose genius has commanded the admiration of the scientific world, whose character, simple, truthful, generous had gained for him the affection of all who had the privilege of his acquaintance. With deepest sympathy
