[Added by GHD:] (a misunderstanding GHD)
My dear Sir, I learnt from Mr. Galton on Saturday that some doubt was felt whether I should like to be invited to Mr. Darwin's funeral in Westminster Abbey on Wednesday. I had presumed that without expressing any wish to that effect, I should receive an invitation to attend, and finding that there was this hesitation I expressed to Mr. Galton my wish to show this mark of

respect, and he volunteered to communicate it to you thinking that delay in his communication may possibly cause inconvenience, I have thought it best to write to you directly on the matter.
I am
Sincerely yours Herbert Spencer
George (or Francis) Darwin Esqr.
