Darwin cited this in Descent 2d ed., p. 19, n 41: "Prof. Alex. Brandt has recently sent me an additional case of a father and son, born in Russia, with these peculiarities. I have received drawings of both from Paris." Alexander von Brandt (1844-1932) was a Russian zoologist and palaeontologist. See Darwin to C. S. Tomes, 16 February [1874], Correspondence vol. 22.
