Frank Sulloway wrote of these notes: "Darwin's record of responses to his request for locality information for the Galápagos finches collected by his servant, Syms Covington, whose birds had been acquired by ornithologist Thomas Eyton, as well as for the finches collected by Harry Fuller, which were still in the possession of Captain FitzRoy. Darwin's check marks show his collation of this information for subsequent publication in the Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle (1841)."
