This is a fair copy of the sketch on the Port Desire notebook, pp. 116-117 of an area around Castro on Chiloe on paper watermarked 1828. Later made into figure No. 20 in South America, p. 124 "No. 20. ─ Ground-plan showing the relation between veins and concretionary zones in a mass of tuff." The "16" is a reference to Darwin's page 16 in his Chilooe notes in CUL-DAR35.310.

Horizontal section: length 3 or 4 feet x 2: drawn in proportion after nature
The double lines represent sides of fissures: & these are slightly prominent.
The curvilinear dotted lines, are not nearly in sufficient numbers, they show the figure of the arrangement of the coarser & finer particles in the sandstone

Showing the relation between veins & concretionary action in between beds of Chiloe; dark line paps & very marbled lines represent unusually zones of concretionary action
Must be reduced.─ the double generally straight lines represent fissures or veins ─ The circles & curves represent concretionary zones of different textures & colours ─ ought they not to be done with dotted lines ─ slight irregularities in my drawing must be corrected.
Showing the relation...concretionary action] pencil.
