I look at the cessation northwards of the Coal in Chili as clearly bearing a relation to present position of Forests. These thick beds of Lignite stratified with substances so like the Coal measures in England (Excepting Conglomerates?) & absence of limestone? have been collected on the open coast. Perhaps as at Concepcion favoured by basin formed by outlying rocks; (such as between Mocha & main land). At Carelmapu. — Within Chiloe:—
