M. Domeyco describes metals in Chile as occurring in bands parallel to the coast in great detail – silver band in middle – West of this copper, west gold – East of silver band – Argentiferous Lead

Mines of Aqueous SE + NW in Sulph of Barytes mercury cobalt – arsenic antimony silver chiefly an amalgam.

though placed near junction of Porphyries & calcareous beds – these micas occur exclusively in one Euritic rock blue or red – with orthos crystals a little way for miles – all contain lime are brecciated in some parts. – the stratified formation consists of conglomerates tuff, breccias porphyritic – layers of schist argilo-silicieux & compact limestone – Belong to lower park of Chalk or Neocomian

[30v]

1 conglomerate

2. siliceous sandstone

3 crystalline dolomite with grains of quartz …???

4 gres argillo-calceur fossiliferous + described by d'Orbigny

5. compact limestone – Hippurites

Distribution of metals – gold & copper with exceptions to law – affinities of [gold] & copper & as far as age goes

iron – upper parts – [illeg] =

silver – gypsum – exception clayish

(Iquigue Pem)

Mercury & other metals – curious case of Arqueros (Irregular band)

Crossing of veins

Metamorphose action – apparent of [illeg] of Copiapo

[illeg] native of porphyritic conglomerate & Tuff

Contrast with [illeg] in the Pacific
