St Jago

* In some sections I imagined that the lower part of the stream appeared more vesicular than the upper which is contrary to what might have been expected, since the lower parts have been subjected to a greater pressures. [insertion:] suppose it may be accounted for. If this fact be gradual; is the fact due to the tendency which the bubbles (as well as the vapour generated by the lava passing over the bottom of the sea) would exert to rise upwards into the mass of lava, whereas on the upper surface they would tend to escape into superincumbent water or atmosphere?
