Spix & Von Martius

Near Villa Rica

Topazes in an earthy talc (decomposed rocks) "incumbent' in Elastic quartz & iron mica Slate) "immense layers of a modified mica" occur in porcelain earth & decomposed mica, detached rock crystal – also found in parts of formation still solid – generally in quartz veins Euclase found with topaz – iron glance – crystals in this formation of decomposed mica always detached, & often in fragments: (NB colour of mass must be mottled): yet not a secondary formation; certainly thinks is like some of the Porcelain earths, primitive: - the fragments of the crystals aggregated together: Eschwege thinks basis of Topaz. Chlorite Slate; Spix does not agree. – Mawe thinks in veins in Clay Slate impressions on Topazes & Euclase of fine scales of Lithomarge. Thinks Mr Zinker. Thinks cavities with these crystals have collapsed & so fractured them.

Pyenite, Enamels occur in parts of Germany in flötz formation of similar kinds

Quartz crystals marked with those of Topaz, do scales of mica, with iron glance

All these remarks by Rev. Wagner

I defy any one (P 186) to understand position of iron stone flotz [insertion:] tapanho-acanga, (which is said to occur at Goyaz. St Pauls, Bahia, & is believed always to contain gold – appears to contain rounded fragm yet appears to graduate into the underlying iron – mica slates, (which are equally incomprehensible) – contains lithomarge.

Eschwege calls Tapanho-acanga calls Alluvial rock. (mica like?)

Spix calls Quader-sandstein evidently so!!!

D. Pohl considers Elastic strata alluvial!

Humboldt as Primitive Wagner appears to consider Topaz rocks connected with these oldest beds

These clearly are auriferous quartz veins – in quarts

I should think iron stone flötz was alluvial yet he talks of crystallized gold in this Quadersandstein

Most [inex] friable disgraceful confusion
