Seeds from Java & Sumatra have been washed on shore. as the Kimiri, Cocoa-nut Balii, known by its shape & size; the dadass, which is planted by the Malays for the pepper corn. thorny bark; the soap tree, castor oil plant, trunks of sago palm, "& various kinds of seeds unknown to the Malays, who settled on the islands. These are all supposed to have been driven on shore by the NW Monsoon to the coast of New Hollands & thence to these islands by the SE tradewind. Large masses of Java teak, and yellow wood have also been found, besides immense

trees of red & white cedar, and the blue Gum wood of New Holland (N B distant - miles) in a perfectly sound condition. All the hardy [seeds] such as creepers retain their germinating power, but the softer kinds, amongst which is the Mangosteen are destroyed in the passage.

Fishing Canoes apparently from Java have at times been washed on shore"

Information obtained from Mr. H. S. Keating. who resided 12 months on the islands.

Holman mentions strong currents off Bourbon, tide race, noise like breaker in middle of ocean & very commonly in parts of the Indian ocean. - Galapagos. - NE End of Keeling -certainly common in great oceans off Staten land. = floods certainly transport large fragments it would be difficult to know effect of such current.
